Sonia, age 29, was a young mother living in Taylorsville at the time of her death. She lived with her common-law husband, her 8 year-old son, and was 6 months pregnant with her second child. She was employed at McDonalds. Sonia lived in the Fairway apartments located at approximately 11th West and 3900 South in Taylorsville. She was home alone on the morning of February 9, 2006 when a neighbor witnessed a Hispanic male talking to her at the front door of her residence. The witness then observed Sonia being assaulted and the suspect was seen entering the apartment and shutting the door. This occurred at approximately 11:30am. Sonia’s body was found by her husband when he returned from work at approximately 6:00pm. She had been sexually assaulted and had died from strangulation.

The suspect is described as a 20 – 29 year old Hispanic male with a medium build, approximately 5’6″. At the time of the incident his hair was short and combed straight back. Her car, a gold 4-door Ford Escort, was missing from the apartment at the time of her death and was located four days later in the parking lot of the Fairfield Inn at 590 W. 4500 S. Jewelry Sonia was wearing was also missing.
