Fingerprint Services

Fingerprint Services

The Utah Bureau of Criminal Identification (BCI) provides non-criminal fingerprinting services for members of the public for the purpose of background checks. BCI provides several options including electronic LiveScan fingerprinting, printed digital fingerprint cards and traditional physical ink fingerprint cards that have been provided to you and may have unique fingerprint placement or formatting.

Scheduling Policy

Services are strictly by appointment only.

Walk-in requests cannot be processed.

Administrative Cost

The flat processing fee is $20.00.

To prevent delays or cancellation of your slotted session, please bring the following mandatory verification elements with you to your appointment:

  • Valid Identification: A current, unexpired government-issued photo identity document (e.g., Driver's License or Passport).
  • LiveScan or electronic fingerprinting authorization documentation: Required fingerprinting paperwork provided to you by your requesting or licensing agency must be presented at the time of fingerprinting.

Please note that all forms must be thoroughly completed and signed before your scheduled appointment time begins. If you fail to provide the required documents, you may have to be fingerprinted again and will be charged.

Before You Schedule

Non-Criminal Scope Mandate: Fingerprint processing appointments are strictly for non-criminal fingerprinting only. The Bureau of Criminal Identification cannot perform criminal processing or court-ordered fingerprinting. Individuals requiring criminal fingerprinting, including sex offender registry required fingerprinting, must coordinate directly with their sentencing court or local county sheriff's office.

Do NOT schedule an appointment for any of the following services:

  • Expungement applications
  • Right of Access (personal criminal history requests)
  • Criminal history challenges and record reviews

The services above are handled on a walk-in basis directly at the primary BCI counter windows and do not require a pre-scheduled fingerprint appointment time slot (we provide ink fingerprint pads for these services).

Room Occupancy Policy: To maintain strict data security and room controls, only the individual being fingerprinted is permitted to enter the fingerprint room. Accommodations will be made for certified language interpreters or individuals requiring direct physical mobility assistance. Children are not allowed in the fingerprinting room. You cannot watch your child while being fingerprinted (including holding your child).

Additional documents that require signatures: BCI cannot sign any documents that indicate our technician is a sworn officer or law enforcement official. BCI cannot sign any documents that indicate we are a “certified” or “approved” fingerprint location. BCI cannot provide Apostille services or document authentication. BCI may sign a simple attestation that our civilian technician verified the identity of the person being fingerprinted.
