On 10/04/1997 at 0031 hours, the Ogden city police department was notified of a shooting in the 2400 block of Adams Avenue. When officers arrived, they found 17-year-old Matthew Mendoza lying on the sidewalk at 2450 Adams Avenue with a single gunshot wound to his chest. Matthew was transported to the hospital, where he died of his injuries. The investigation found Matthew had been involved in an altercation with two other males. One of the suspects produced a handgun and shot, striking Matthew. The suspects, described as males wearing black clothing, fled south on Adams Avenue.
