In the afternoon of June 23, 1958, a railroad worker discovered the decomposing body of an unidentified man along the Southern Pacific Railroad right-of-way about 10 miles east of Lucin. He was laying in a barren area and had either jumped or fallen from a westbound train. The man had died of his injuries and had been there about a week. He was dressed in a light jacket, 33-34” denim pants, and blue canvas shoes. He was about 30 to 35 years old with sandy to red hair. He stood about 6 feet tall and weighed between 175 to 200 pounds.
