Vilate Kerreen YOUNG

Missing Person Cold Case Tip Hotline: 833-DPS-SAFE (833-377-7233)

On July 4, 1956 Fifteen month old Vilate Kerreen Young wandered away from a large family picnic on the ranch of her maternal Grandfather, Newell Steed (About 7 miles from Widtsoe). Vilate, her parents, Kerry and Dena Young and siblings were actually from Monteview, Idaho. Her Family had traveled to the Ranch to celebrate Independence Day with her Mother’s Family. During the celebration, several family members, including Vilate, gathered at one of the Ranch’s outbuildings to churn ice cream when she wandered away. The Teddy Bear she had been clutching was found near where she was last seen. One cousin claimed, “Vilate has gone up the hill and won’t come back.” Vilate is described as last seen dressed in a light cotton dress with sandals on her feet. Hundreds of people searched for the little girl in the following weeks. Ground searches, bloodhounds and airplanes were used in the search in a radius of 3 miles from the ranch. Deep ravines running through the property were drained and surrounding Alfalfa fields were cut down in the search efforts. Nine bloodhounds tracked the girls scent until it dead ended at a rural road. I was speculated that she could have been picked up by a passing motorist.
